Free Pomodoro Timer
25min work, 5min short break, 15min long break. Stay focused and productive. 100% in your browser.
How It Works
Set your work interval (default 25 minutes), short break (5 minutes), and long break (15 minutes). Click Start to begin a focused work session. The timer counts down with an audio notification when each interval ends. After four work sessions, a long break is triggered automatically. Track completed pomodoros to measure your daily productivity.
When to Use It
- Maintaining focus during deep work sessions like coding, writing, or studying for exams.
- Fighting procrastination by breaking overwhelming tasks into manageable 25-minute chunks.
- Tracking billable hours for freelance work by counting completed pomodoros per client project.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why 25 minutes specifically?
Francesco Cirillo developed the Pomodoro Technique in the 1980s and found 25 minutes optimal for sustained focus without mental fatigue. However, you can customize the interval — some people prefer 50-minute work blocks with 10-minute breaks for flow-state activities.
Does the timer work if I switch browser tabs?
Yes. The timer uses JavaScript intervals that continue running in background tabs. The audio notification will play when the interval ends, even if you are working in another application. Keep the browser tab open but you do not need to stay on it.
How many pomodoros should I do per day?
Most productivity experts suggest 8-12 pomodoros (4-6 hours of focused work) per day is optimal. Beyond that, cognitive performance drops significantly. Quality of focus matters more than quantity — even 4 deeply focused pomodoros can be more productive than 8 distracted hours.
